What is Science Capital?

Science Capital is described as a ‘holdall’ or bag that contains all the science-related experience, knowledge, skills and attitudes a person acquires throughout their life. It includes:

  • What you know about science
  • How you think about science
  • What you do: science related experiences
  • Who you know: people involved in science

Everyone has different amounts of Science Capital. The more science-related experiences and information someone gains during their life, the more comfortable and confident they are in engaging with and participating in science.
